Anti Wrinkle Treatment

What is it?

Botulinum toxin A is a medication more commonly known as Botox, it is used for several medical procedures, but in more recent years this has been used for temporarily reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

How is works?

Fine lines and wrinkles develop over time from using facial muscles throughout our life, such as frowning, smiling and raising our eyebrows. As we get older, we produce less collagen and elastin, therefore over time, fine lines and wrinkles appear and become more permanent as we age.

When Botulinum Toxin is injected into the muscle, the purified protein causes the muscle to temporarily relax and become inactive, this lasts approximately 3 months. However, the effect can differ from person to person and vary from relaxation of the muscle to the inability to move the muscle.

The Procedure

After consultation with my prescriber (see notes below) you will attend one of my clinics for your treatment.

Firstly, I will cleanse your skin and prepare the Botulinum Toxin, I will ask you to perform several facial expressions so I can observe how your muscles work. The sites will be marked up ready for injection – The injection is a very fine/short needle, which may cause some very slight discomfort but will not last very long.

What to expect?

It takes 2 weeks for the Botulinum Toxin to take full effect, but you may notice some changes to your muscle in 3- 5 days after the treatment, with normal muscle activity returning from 6 – 8 weeks. At 12 weeks, treatment will be made available again if you desire, following consultation.

I will invite you for a follow up appointment at 2 weeks to review the treatment, and if required a top up may be given.

You may experience some redness and swelling to the sites, which should subside after 1 -2 hours. There is also a risk of bruising at the injection site, however this should be minor and will settle within 2 weeks.
